High King Peter rides to Anvard soon after his coronation, to establish Narnia’s supremacy over Archenland.
– Why did they not come to Narnia’s aid? asks the King.
Oreius, who is not only the strongest centaur but also the wisest, replies, — They are a nation that has spent too long cowering in the White Witch’s shadow.
The High King is unmoved. — And their King claims to be descended from the first King of Narnia?
– Peace, says Oreius, the one creature unafraid to rebuke the King. — Like all kings, his only wish was to keep his people safe.
